The Y30 Cedric/Gloria, launched in 1983, was revamped with the first V6 engine in a Japanese passenger car as its main selling point. While retaining the popular image of its predecessor, it evolved as a luxury car of the 1980s by extending the wheelbase and increasing interior dimensions. In 1984, it received further improvements, including the addition of the Brougham VIP, the top-of-the-line model, which featured the V6 3000cc turbo engine previously used in the Fairlady Z. In 1985, the exterior underwent a major change, further enhancing its luxurious appearance and representing the pinnacle of Japanese luxury cars at the time.
