Before the widespread use of minivans like those we see today, ambulances were typically wagon-style vehicles based on passenger cars. Toyota ambulances, in particular, retained the image of the Crown passenger car while significantly increasing the body size to secure the necessary space for emergency medical services. They also featured a large 6-cylinder 3900cc engine, enhancing their power performance.

The Toyota ambulance, with its bonnet-type design (sometimes called the Metropolitan type depending on the era) that retained the image of the Crown, was produced in three generations by around 1971. All of them were appealing for their sleek style that took advantage of their large body size. The final model, the FS55V, in particular, was a well-known vehicle, even being produced as a Tomica model in the past and becoming a long-selling item for about 20 years.

As part of last year's 55th anniversary celebration of Tomica, a modified version of the Toyota Ambulance FS55V, which was also produced as a TLV (Toyota Multi-Live) product, is now available. This time, it reproduces the specifications of the ambulance that was stationed at the Honda Fire Station in Katsushika Ward, under the jurisdiction of the Tokyo Fire Department. It will be enjoyed by a wide range of fans, including those who have fond memories of playing with Tomica in the past, those who like emergency vehicles, and those who love the Showa era.
